| about cindy's work After selecting the images from a shoot that I want to develop, I use my ‘digital darkroom’ to edit images along traditional darkroom parameters such as brightness/darkness, contrast, saturation and gradient curves (with black and whites, setting all tones along the gray scale precisely where I want them to be). Artistic effect is achieved primarily by my use of light and composition as I shoot. An outsider artist, I stray from the beaten path of standard photography subject matter. For the most part, I do not look for photo opportunities, but, instead, shoot 'found moments'. Seeing art in the everyday world that surrounds me, I shoot whatever strikes my eye and my heart in such a way that I feel compelled to capture the image with my camera. Perhaps because I take photographs of things that strike my heart as much as my eye, viewers of my work frequently comment on how moving it is. For me, this is the most difficult part of the process: capturing the photograph in such a way that it will resonate emotionally with the viewer in the same way the original subject moved me. |
